Good news for job hunters with an eye on Fort McMurray. A decision made this past Friday has Suncor Energy saying they have "officically restarted growth in the oilsands."
This is great news for those looking for work in the Fort McMurray area, as spending for this project is estimated around $900 million this year and best of all, an expected 3000 new jobs will be created.
"In this next round of projects, we want to avoid creating a firestorm of inflation. I expect the industry to be more mature," Suncor CEO Rick George said in a webcast to investment analysts.
Ultimately Suncor is looking for keep focused on their target to raise production by 10 percent every year.
Don Thompson, president of the Fort McMurray-based Oilsands Developers Group, said Suncor's $4 billion worth for maintenance and sustaining capital spending in 2010 will have a big impact on the Alberta economy because more than half will be spent in the province.
